Once On This Island is a captivating legend of romance between a peasant girl and a rich city boy whom she saves from death. This calypso-flavoured re-telling of The Little Mermaid opens on a Caribbean island where villagers comfort a little girl with the story of the orphan Ti Moune, destined to love too much for the human heart to bear. Staged with minimal props, sets and costumes, Once On This Island delivers melody, love and joy in tropical abundance.

Details:
A showcase featuring our talented recreational and award-winning competitive dancers of all ages. Each group will perform an exciting routine for family and friends of Stars Academy. Please read through the details below and feel free to speak with your child's teacher if you have any questions.
Costumes
Costumes have been ordered by the instructors and will be fitted to your dancer and distributed in class in late May.
DVD/Pictures
A DVD and pictures of your child's recreational class will be available a few weeks after recital. You will be contacted by email when you can come pick them up.
Tickets
Tickets are $15 each (all ages) and are available from the office May 26, 5:30-7PM and May 29, 12-2PM. There is no limit on tickets. Seating is general. Please let us know if you require seating for handicapped or elderly persons. Baby's on laps do not require a ticket. Performers do not require a ticket. If you missed the ticket days listed please call the studio voicemail and let us know your family name and how many tickets you need. We will put them aside and they can be picked up at the door of the show. Please bring exact cash/cheque as we can not make change. We can no longer put aside tickets within 24 hours of the show, thank you for your understanding.
Hair-All female dancers should have hair in a high curly ponytail with no bangs (only exception is Tiny Dancers who have their hair half up, half down.)
Make up- There is no need to buy special make up or colours. Stage make up for dancers is used only to reduce shadows on the face. Foundation in a natural colour should be used to reduce shine. Eyelids should have neutral colours like brown or beige to add some depth, and black eyeliner on the upper lid only. Mascara or false eyelashes can be used if the dancer is comfortable with this. Blush should also be natural looking and applied to the apple of the cheeks.
Tights- if applicable, will be supplied with costume.
Shoes-appropriate class shoes should be worn. Please speak with your instructor if you are unclear.
Performer Drop-off will be at 1:30PM-1:45PM in the hall behind the lobby. Please do not arrive before this time as the hall will not be open however, it is very important that your dancer arrive prepared and dressed within that window as we have to get them familiar with the surroundings as well as snap some group pictures before they head to the stage. Parents will not be allowed in the hall unless they are one of our supervisors. Once your child is in the hall there are under supervision and will stay with teachers/assistants until they are returned to you after they dance.
The show will be approximately 2.5 hours long.
Performers may watch the rest of the recital after their own performances have finished, their teachers will bring them to the theatre to sit at the front and watch the rest of the show. We encourage all families to stay to the end of the show so the performer pick up can be properly monitered. If you need to take you dancer before the end of the show, you MUST previously arrange this with your child's instructor.

The jungle is jumpin' with jazz in this exciting Disney classic! Join Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie and the gang as they swing their way through madcap adventures and thwart the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan. Specially adapted from the beloved film, this musical includes all your favorite Disney tunes, like "The Bare Necessities," and "I Wan'na Be Like You." With colorful characters and that toe-tapping jungle rhythm, The Jungle Book KIDS is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for audiences of all ages.

- An opportunity to take a dynamic ballet class along side the Stars of Billy Elliot Myles Erlick and Marcus Pei. Take this opportunity to update your resume as this unforgettable class will be instructed by Ballet Master Sean Kelly who is also the current Resident Dance Director of Billy Elliot the musical. This intimate class is designed for classical, competitive and professional students with at least 3 years of serious classical ballet training. A meet and greet will follow the class.
Master Class Begins at 6PM details of age groups and specific class length will be released shortly and based on registration.
Age 8-12 $35 (1 hour class)
Age 13+ $60 (1.5-2 hour class)
Instructors View Classes Free
Parent Viewing $10, no cameras or video
A meet and greet will follow each class at which time pictures are welcome.

- An opportunity to take a dynamic ballet class along side the Stars of Billy Elliot Myles Erlick and Marcus Pei. Take this opportunity to update your resume as this unforgettable class will be instructed by Ballet Master Sean Kelly who is also the current Resident Dance Director of Billy Elliot the musical. This intimate class is designed for classical, competitive and professional students with at least 3 years of serious classical ballet training. A meet and greet will follow the class.
Master Class Begins at 6PM details of age groups and specific class length will be released shortly and based on registration.
Age 8-12 $35 (1 hour class)
Age 13+ $60 (1.5-2 hour class)
Instructors View Classes Free
Parent Viewing $10, no cameras or video
A meet and greet will follow each class at which time pictures are welcome.

Details:
A showcase featuring our talented recreational and award-winning competitive dancers of all ages. Each group will perform an exciting routine for family and friends of Stars Academy. Please read through the details below and feel free to speak with your child's teacher if you have any questions.
Costumes
Costumes have been ordered by the instructors and will be fitted to your dancer and distributed in class in late May.
DVD/Pictures
A DVD and pictures of your child's recreational class will be available a few weeks after recital. You will be contacted by email when you can come pick them up.
Tickets
Tickets are $15 each (all ages) and are available from the office May 26, 5:30-7PM and May 29, 12-2PM. There is no limit on tickets. Seating is general. Please let us know if you require seating for handicapped or elderly persons. Baby's on laps do not require a ticket. Performers do not require a ticket. If you missed the ticket days listed please call the studio voicemail and let us know your family name and how many tickets you need. We will put them aside and they can be picked up at the door of the show. Please bring exact cash/cheque as we can not make change. We can no longer put aside tickets within 24 hours of the show, thank you for your understanding.
Hair-All female dancers should have hair in a high curly ponytail with no bangs (only exception is Tiny Dancers who have their hair half up, half down.)
Make up- There is no need to buy special make up or colours. Stage make up for dancers is used only to reduce shadows on the face. Foundation in a natural colour should be used to reduce shine. Eyelids should have neutral colours like brown or beige to add some depth, and black eyeliner on the upper lid only. Mascara or false eyelashes can be used if the dancer is comfortable with this. Blush should also be natural looking and applied to the apple of the cheeks.
Tights- if applicable, will be supplied with costume.
Shoes-appropriate class shoes should be worn. Please speak with your instructor if you are unclear.
Performer Drop-off will be at 1:30PM-1:45PM in the hall behind the lobby. Please do not arrive before this time as the hall will not be open however, it is very important that your dancer arrive prepared and dressed within that window as we have to get them familiar with the surroundings as well as snap some group pictures before they head to the stage. Parents will not be allowed in the hall unless they are one of our supervisors. Once your child is in the hall there are under supervision and will stay with teachers/assistants until they are returned to you after they dance.
The show will be approximately 2.5 hours long.
Performers may watch the rest of the recital after their own performances have finished, their teachers will bring them to the theatre to sit at the front and watch the rest of the show. We encourage all families to stay to the end of the show so the performer pick up can be properly monitered. If you need to take you dancer before the end of the show, you MUST previously arrange this with your child's instructor.

Once On This Island is a captivating legend of romance between a peasant girl and a rich city boy whom she saves from death. This calypso-flavoured re-telling of The Little Mermaid opens on a Caribbean island where villagers comfort a little girl with the story of the orphan Ti Moune, destined to love too much for the human heart to bear. Staged with minimal props, sets and costumes, Once On This Island delivers melody, love and joy in tropical abundance.

Takes place during regular dance and drama class times from May 25-May 30. Costuming for all dance classes will be provided on this day and would have been previously fitted. Students should arrive wearing the appropriate tights and shoes and with hair/make up done as requested by their teacher in the info email that is released mid month.
